Terms and Conditons
A) DOMESTIC TERMS & CONDITIONS
Laurence Bickell Carpentry and Joinery Services
(For Consumers / Residential Clients)
1. General
1.1 These Terms apply to all domestic work carried out by Laurence Bickell Carpentry and Joinery Services (“we”, “us”, “our”) for consumers (“you”).
1.2 These Terms take precedence over any other terms unless agreed in writing.
2. Formation of Contract
A contract is formed when you:

Accept our quotation in writing

Pay a deposit
-
Instruct us to begin work
3. Quotations
3.1 All quotations are fixed-price and valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.
3.2 Quotations are based on information provided and visible site conditions at the time of quoting.
4. Payments
4.1 Payment structure:

50% deposit upon acceptance
-
For projects over £4,000, a 25% interim payment at an agreed stage
-
Final 50% (25%) payable on completion
4.2 Deposits are required before materials are ordered or manufacture begins.
4.3 We reserve the right to suspend work if payments are not made when due.
5. Consumer Cancellation Rights
5.1 Where a contract is agreed off-premises or at a distance, you have a 14-day cooling-off period.
5.2 If you request work to begin within this period, you agree to pay for:

Work completed
-
Materials ordered or manufactured
6. Materials & Bespoke Joinery
6.1 All materials remain our property until paid for in full.
6.2 Bespoke joinery items are non-refundable once manufacture has commenced, unless they are faulty or not as described.
7. Variations & Additional Work
Any changes requested after acceptance of a quotation may incur additional costs and/or extend timescales. All variations must be agreed before work proceeds.
8. Timescales & Delays
All dates are estimates only. We are not responsible for delays caused by:

Client changes or access issues
-
Weather
-
Supplier delays
-
Unforeseen site or structural conditions
9. Client Responsibilities
You agree to:

Provide clear and safe access
-
Ensure the site is ready
-
Inform us of hidden services, asbestos, or structural issues

Protect personal belongings
10. Timber & Natural Materials
10.1 Timber is a natural material and variations in colour, grain, texture, expansion, shrinkage, or movement are normal and not defects.
10.2 Environmental movement is not a workmanship fault.
10.3 Whilst every attempt is made to eliminate the expansion and shrinkage of external/internal joinery items such as gates, doors, and windows by allowing a certain amount of clearance, Laurence Bickell Joinery is not liable for any expansion/shrinkage or swelling of these items.
11. Decoration & Maintenance
11.1 Unless stated otherwise, painting or staining is not included.
11.2 External joinery must be fully decorated within two weeks of installation and properly maintained thereafter.
11.3 This does not affect your statutory rights where goods or workmanship are faulty.
12. Workmanship & Defects
12.1 All work is carried out with reasonable skill and care.
12.2 Any defects should be reported as soon as reasonably possible.
12.3 We will be given reasonable opportunity to inspect and rectify proven defects.
12.4 Please be advised whilst we will of course endeavour to minimise any damage caused, on occasion, positioning of a well fitted piece of joinery can leave minor scuff marks to the existing walls, which may need some cosmetic attention on completion. If necessary, we are happy to fix this should you require but it may incur a small additional charge.
12.5 This warranty is in addition to, and does not replace, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
13. Warranty
Workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, excluding:

Fair wear and tear
-
Misuse or neglect
-
Lack of maintenance
-
Alterations by others
-
Timber movement due to environmental conditions
14. Liability
14.1 We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
14.2 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales.
B) COMMERCIAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
Laurence Bickell Carpentry and Joinery Services
(For Trade / Business Clients)
1. General
These Terms apply to all commercial contracts between Laurence Bickell Carpentry and Joinery Services and business clients.
2. Contract Formation
A contract is formed upon written acceptance of our quotation, payment of a deposit, or instruction to proceed.
3. Quotations
All quotations are fixed-price, valid for 30 days, and based on information available at the time of quoting.
4. Payment Terms

50% deposit on acceptance
-
Projects over £4,000 require a 25% interim payment
-
Final 50% (25%) payable on completion
We reserve the right to suspend works for late or non-payment.
5. Materials & Title
5.1 All materials and goods remain our property until paid for in full.
5.2 Bespoke items are non-refundable once manufacture has commenced.
6. Variations
All variations are chargeable and may affect timescales.
7. Delivery & Risk
Risk passes on delivery, collection, or completion of installation. We are not liable for delays beyond our reasonable control.
8. Timber & Tolerances
8.1 Timber variation, movement, and trade tolerances are accepted characteristics and not defects.
8.2 Whilst every attempt is made to eliminate the expansion and shrinkage of external/internal joinery items such as gates, doors, and windows by allowing a certain amount of clearance, Laurence Bickell Joinery is not liable for any expansion/shrinkage or swelling of these items.
9. Defects & Warranty
9.1 Workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months.
9.2 Defects must be notified promptly and we must be given opportunity to rectify.

10. Liability
10.1 We exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit.
10.2 Total liability is limited to the contract value, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate work for non-payment, breach of contract, or unsafe site conditions.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales.
